On Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Piqua Police Officers, with assistance of investigators from the Sidney Police Department, executed a search warrant at 213 ½ S. Roosevelt in Piqua as part of a drug trafficking investigation.
Several suspicious items were recovered and the investigation is still being conducted. The target of this investigation, Melissa L. Olds, age 52, of that address, has been charged for possession of 18 grams of Methamphetamine. The charge is Trafficking in Drugs, a Felony of the First Degree due to the amount of drugs seized and vicinity to a school.
“We have seen a tremendous increase in Meth use and trafficking in Piqua so far this year,” says Piqua Chief of Police Bruce Jamison. “We want to make it clear that substituting meth use for heroin use is not an acceptable resolution to individual drug issues. We offer any assistance we can to removing barriers people face in their recovery. Shutting down the dealers is one of the tactics we employ.”
Anyone needing assistance in recovery is encouraged to contact any officer in our department for information on our HEART (Heroin Education and Recovery Team) program. This resource is available for any addiction, not just heroin. We also accept anonymous tips through our Submit-A-Tip program. More information on these programs can be found at PiquaOhPD.org.
