Person in scuba gear, under the waterThe Fire Department provides its citizens with a full array of services. The responsibilities include providing fire and emergency medical services, technical rescue operations, fire prevention inspections, and fire safety education as well as additional duties including the maintenance of the city's disaster plan and early weather warning sirens.

The fire department enjoys a class four fire insurance rating. The Department has current mutual aid agreements with all area departments and is a current member of the Greater Dayton Area mutual aid agreement group.

All members are trained in both firefighting and emergency medical skills but receive additional training and certification in confined space, rope rescue, hazardous materials, and active shooter tactical training. In addition to this the department also operates two specialized rescue teams: a dive rescue and recovery team and a technical rescue team.

Staffing

The Fire Department has three 24-hour duty shifts with 10 members each, consisting of an Assistant Chief, Captain, and 8 firefighters. The Chief of the department along with an Assistant Chief assigned to fire prevention work a standard 40-hour week. The department has one full time civilian employee who works as the administrative assistant to the Chief.

Ohio Fire Code Update - Consumer Fireworks Discharge Rules (June 2022)

I am pleased to announce that amendments to the Ohio Fire Code (OFC) regarding consumer discharge of fireworks have completed the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR) process. These amendments are contained in Rule 56 of the OFC at section 5626 (Ohio Administrative Code section 1301:7-7-56(Z)) and have been filed with JCARR in their final form. These rules become effective on July 3, 2022.
