The City of Piqua Human Resources Department has been awarded a Transitional Work Program (TWP) grant through the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC). The program aims to help injured workers safely and efficiently return to their job duties through customized transitional work plans.
As part of the program, a BWC-accredited transitional work developer, Clint Stealey, DPT, of Murphy Vocational Services, conducts on-site job analyses of key positions across multiple City departments. These analyses will provide detailed insight into each role, creating tailored strategies that reflect actual job duties to gradually and safely transition employees back into their positions.
To initiate the program, analyses have been completed for the positions of police officer, firefighter/paramedic, journeyman line worker, equipment operator, laborer, underground utilities maintenance worker, parks maintenance worker, water plant mechanic, wastewater operator and water operator.
Human Resources Director Catherine Bogan plans to continue pursuing grant support over time to eventually complete job analyses for all safety-sensitive positions.
“We are excited to implement the Transitional Work Program here in Piqua,” Bogan said. “This initiative will strengthen our ability to support the well-being of our workforce while maintaining essential City operations. Having worked with this program in the past, I know firsthand how effective it can be.”
In addition to the job analyses, the service agreement for the grant includes the development of policy and procedures as well as supervisor education and training. Together, these efforts ensure a comprehensive approach to safety that supports employees at every level.
