The City of Piqua Utilities Department is conducting field inspections to identify the material type of City-owned underground water service lines in select areas of the city.

As part of this work, crews will use a process commonly referred to as “potholing,” which involves carefully excavating small test holes to visually confirm pipe materials. This inspection work is limited to the City-side portion of the service line and does not involve or impact private, homeowner-owned plumbing. There is no cost to homeowners associated with this work.

Inspections are currently underway along South Roosevelt Avenue and will continue in the Camp Street and Virginia Street areas before concluding near Broadway. The inspection phase is expected to be completed by the second week of February, weather permitting.

Once inspections are complete, the Utilities Department will compile an inventory of required materials and plan for the future replacement of applicable city-side service lines only. Residents may see crews working near sidewalks or utility connections during this process. Any disturbed areas will be restored following the work.

Residents with questions may contact the City of Piqua Utilities Department at 937.778.2088 for additional information.
