The City of Piqua is excited to announce the launch of the process to update the City Comprehensive Plan that serves as the guiding document for the City’s future growth and development.

The City invites qualified planning firms to submit proposals to update the City’s current Comprehensive Plan, titled “Plan It Piqua,” which was adopted in 2007. The plan will establish policies and benchmarks related to future land uses, infrastructure and utilities, economic development and community facilities which will provide an overall vision for growth through 2040.

Comprehensive Plans are a widely used tool for local governments to document goals that guide future community growth, land use, and development priorities.  In Miami County, Troy completed an update in 2024, and Tipp City is currently undergoing an update process to their Comprehensive Plans.

“A comprehensive plan is a community’s promise to its future — aligning growth with shared values, protecting what matters most and ensuring that today’s decisions build opportunity, resilience and quality of life for generations to come”, Community Services Director Kyle Hinkelman said.

The project is anticipated to commence in the summer of 2026 with substantial completion by December 2027. The selected firm will offer various opportunities for public input during the 18-month project scope.

“The new Comprehensive Plan will allow us to achieve community goals by laying out the process to efficiently get there,” Mayor Jim Vetter said. “I highly encourage any resident who cares about how Piqua grows into the future to participate in the upcoming community engagement opportunities and help us to shape the priorities for our future.”

The Request for Qualifications will be shared on the City of Piqua website at piquaoh.gov/bids on or about Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Proposals are due by 4 p.m. eastern time on Friday, March 27, 2026.
