[ARCHIVED] Preparing Your Home for Extremely Cold Temperatures

Untitled design (8)

With extremely cold temperatures forecasted for Sunday, January 14 – Wednesday, January 17, the City of Piqua would like to remind residents to protect their private water service lines, water meters (if inside) and pipes in their home from freezing. City crews will only respond to breaks in water mains, as well as conduct emergency shutoffs. City crews will not respond to or work on any private water service lines beyond the curb stop box that are frozen.

In the cold weather around Christmas 2022, most of the problems were with pipes, in basements that lacked heat.

If you have not already done so, please winterize your home as soon as possible. Being preventative can save you time and money.

As a reminder, if your water meter freezes, the replacement and/or repair is the responsibility of the property owner or tenant.  If you are a tenant, we encourage you to speak with your landlord as soon as possible if plumbing issues arise.
