[ARCHIVED] Piqua Power System Encourages Citizens to Conserve Electricity During Snow Storm

Winter Weather Update

The Piqua Power System encourages the Piqua community to conserve electricity as the snow storm travels through the city. PJM Interconnection, the electricity grid operator for 65 million people in 13 states and the District of Columbia, has requested the public in its region to conserve electricity. The call for conservation was prompted by continuing frigid weather.

Load Reductions are critical right now to maintain system balance and avoid escalation to further emergency actions (voltage reduction and manual load dump).

The request is being made throughout PJM.

System conditions may change quickly in either direction but conditions are very tight and expected to remain tight through tonight and then again through tomorrow’s morning and afternoon peaks.

Demand for electricity is expected to increase in the PJM region and the regions neighboring PJM because of the extremely cold weather. Electricity customers can take simple electricity conservation steps such as:

Setting thermostats lower than usual, if health permits,

Postponing use of major electric appliances such as stoves, dishwashers and clothes dryers until other times, and

Turning off non-essential electric lights, equipment and appliances.

CPower continues to closely monitor the situation and will provide any updates as they arise. We thank you for your commitment and your continued support to the PJM electrical grid.
