Notice is hereby given for the cancellation of the Piqua City Commission Work Session scheduled for Tuesday, April 19, 2022.

The next regular Piqua City Commission Meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

 

 

April 26, 2022 Piqua Board of Zoning Appeals Meeting

Please be advised that the City of Piqua Board of Zoning Appeals meeting will be conducted on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 6:00 PM.

Board members and staff members will attend the meeting in person, agenda item applicants and interested parties are encouraged to attend the meeting in person. Interested parties may also request access via Zoom.

Residents and others with interest in the agenda topics may also submit public comment on an item until noon on the day of the meeting by emailing Bethany Harp at bharp@piquaoh.org. Public comments submitted by the date/time noted will be presented to the Board of Zoning Appeals at the public hearing proceedings.

City of Piqua Mayor Steps Down from City Commission

During the April 5, 2022, Piqua City Commission Mayor Thomas Fogt announced he is stepping down as Mayor and from the City Commission.

“It is truly with a heavy heart that I announce I will be stepping down from the City Commission due to a recent career change with a demanding schedule and raising my family,” stated Mayor Fogt. “I will continue to be active in the Piqua Community and I know this team will continue to move the city forward.”

Vice Mayor Cindy Pearson, Second Ward Commissioner, will step in as mayor and the commission shall choose another of its members to act as vice mayor. The Piqua City Charter also states the City Commission has 60 days to appoint an elector from the ward in which the vacancy occurs. If the commission does not fill the vacancy by appointment within 60 days, a special election will be held to fill the vacancy.

Piqua Bike Path Closed between Roadside Park and River’s Edge

The City of Piqua bike path is currently closed between Roadside Park and Rivers Edge due to heavy rain damage to the path. City crews are diligently working to resolve this issue and bike path users will not be able to detour through this closure.

 

City of Piqua Completes the AMI Integration Project

On March 9, 2022, the City of Piqua completed the AMI integration project and began receiving remote reads from both electric and water meters into the new AclaraOne software. Our teams are receiving training on the new software and its features with the goal of maximizing benefits to City utility customers and gaining operational efficiencies.

Utility Business Office Manager, RJ Monnier, stated, “We are excited to launch our fully automated meter reading system and look forward to all the benefits it will provide customers. Implementing this system is in line with the goal of proactively communicating, being transparent and accurate, and providing excellent customer service to Piqua Utility customers.”

The completion of the integration project successfully provides the Utility Business Office with customer service enhancements.

By utilizing AMI, the City will see benefits including eliminating the need to physically visit every meter location each month improving the safety of employees, the public, and properties. This will give the City the ability to generate automated, timely, and accurate bills, regardless of weather conditions or property access limitations, in turn, eliminating an overwhelming majority of estimated readings. Remote connections, disconnection, and on-demand reading capabilities will also streamline move in/out requests by completing the tasks in minutes instead of days.

In addition, customer service reps will be able to be proactive by reaching out to customers and alerting them of continuous flow or unusual electric use patterns prior to the generation of their bill. This will allow accurate data usage down to the hour for both electric and water creating greater confidence in how bill amounts are determined and quicker problem resolution, generating accurate outage location information and meter reporting to support rapid outage restoration.
