Citizen Engagement & Involvement Programs: CITIZENNET – Keeping the Community, Government and Business Connected!
The Adopt-A-Program allows for Piqua residents to adopt parks, trails, landscaped areas, playgrounds, streets, etc. to help maintain them. Signs are placed at or in the adopted areas/facilities to recognize the individual, organization, family, or club. Applications are available online.
The Piqua Government Academy gives residents an inside look at operations of the city government. The Piqua Government Academy meets one evening a week for 15 weeks. Participants get an inside look at city government and get to tour city departments and facilities, learn interesting facts, drive or use equipment, and experience the everyday responsibilities of city workers. The last meeting consists of a Mock Commission meeting with participants playing roles of City Commissioners, City Manager, City Attorney, and Department Heads.
The HELP (Housing Enhancement League of Piqua) program matches citizens that may not be physically able to perform maintenance, shovel snow, or other needs at their home. Volunteers are matched up to assist these residents to emphasize the importance of neighbors helping neighbors.
Nextdoor – A free, secure, social networking tool that connects you with your neighbors and your neighborhoods!
Nextdoor is a social media resource that allows neighborhoods to connect and correspond electronically. The web site is secured and enables only residents within the 12 defined areas of Piqua to join in their neighborhood. The City of Piqua monitors the web site and shares important information pertinent to a neighborhood. The City of Piqua is the first municipality in Ohio to utilize this free program.
