Mark’s Bike Drive will be returning to the Fletcher, Piqua, Covington and Bradford area for the 2017 Christmas season. This is the fourth year for this program. In the first year Mark Reedy worked with the Piqua Salvation Army Christmas Program, and the second year worked with the Shelby County Salvation Army Christmas Program. Last year Reedy worked with the local Darke County Road Hoggs Toys for Tykes, United Way and the Big Brothers Big Sisters for the distribution of the bikes for Darke County children.
Hundreds of children have received bikes each of the past 3 years!
Reedy says “Every child should have a bike so they can get some exercise, and have fun with friends! We are extremely blessed to have such terrific support from these different organizations in the last 3 years!” Reedy, his office staff, Toys for Tots, and the Piqua Salvation Army are assembling the team of volunteers needed to make the project a success.
Mark’s Bike Drive is asking Fletcher, Piqua, Covington and Bradford residents, and friends to participate
as they are financially able, to help less fortunate families have bicycles for their children. A suggested donation is $90, as that is the average amount needed for each bicycle and helmet, but any donation amount is appreciated. Fundraising efforts will continue through December 2nd.
“We are already excited by the energy of those involved early in the project!” says Reedy. “This project has proven to be a very popular activity to get involved in, for the great people of Fletcher, Piqua, Covington and Bradford areas. We appreciate all of the help from those contributing financially, volunteers, corporate and anonymous donors, the area community governments, mayors, trustees etc.”
You can donate and get involved by calling Mark’s Bike Drive at 778-1353, or going online to marksbikedrive.org, and Mark’s Bike Drive on Facebook. The Piqua Salvation Army will be announcing how and when to sign up children for a bicycle.
