The recently released Piqua Community Center Campus Plan examines the possibility of developing a campus near downtown to serve a variety of community interests. The content of the plan builds upon a recommendation that emanates from the previously completed Historic East Piqua Master Plan.
An overarching objective of the Piqua Community Center Plan is to meet a variety of community interests that are important to the citizens of Piqua. Creating synergies between various service providers and end users is a recurring theme throughout the document. The plan proposes the construction of multiple buildings overlooking a campus green and emphasizes the shared use of both indoor and outdoor public spaces. A network of walking and bicycling friendly improvements create strong connections between the buildings on the campus and the adjacent neighborhood, the downtown business district, and the Great Miami Riverway. A small structure near the top of the river levee will serve as a hub for recreational and educational interests utilizing the waterway and trail system. The plan explains how interests including recreation and fitness, health and wellness, early childhood and adult education, senior housing, innovation and entrepreneurship, the arts, and military readiness could all be served by the proposed campus.
Partners collaborating on the completion of this planning effort included the City of Piqua, YMCA of Miami County, National Guard, Piqua City Schools, and Edison State Community College.
